Summary

This policy covers the iOS and Android editions of Tax Residency. The app is designed to process personal information primarily on the user's device. Hypatia does not operate an analytics, advertising, or location-history server for the app, and does not sell or share app data for advertising or marketing.

Information processed by the app

The following information may be processed locally by the app, depending on the platform and which features the user enables:

• Location data: precise or approximate device location, visit points, inferred country codes, and daily country summaries used to estimate time spent in each country. On Android, Standard tracking can use location when the app is closed or not in use; optional high-accuracy tracking runs with a visible, stoppable notification.
• Motion and activity data (iOS, where enabled): optional motion signals used to improve low-power location updates and detect movement or stops.
• Photo library metadata (iOS, where enabled): optional analysis of geotagged photos, initiated by the user, to reconstruct past country stays. Photos are not uploaded to Hypatia.
• App-generated data: visit history, country summaries, app preferences and, where the relevant feature is available, manual entries, thresholds, excluded countries, monitored areas, backup settings, device labels, or diagnostic logs.
• Notifications: Android may display an ongoing notification while high-accuracy tracking is active. iOS may also provide local stay-limit alerts where configured.
• Widget data (iOS, where available): compact on-device summaries shared with iOS widgets through the app group container.

Purpose and legal basis

The app processes data to provide country-stay calculations and history. Additional features such as manual corrections, alerts, widgets, import/export, and private cloud backup are available only on supported platforms and app versions. Where GDPR applies, processing that depends on protected device permissions is based on the user's consent through the permission prompts and in-app settings provided by iOS or Android.

On-device processing and optional backup

Core calculations are performed on the device. On Android, coordinates are converted to country codes using geographic data bundled with the app, and the current Android edition does not transmit location or stay-history data to Hypatia. Where available on iOS, optional iCloud backup stores backup files in the user's own Apple iCloud account and is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy. Hypatia does not receive the user's iCloud backup files. The current Android edition does not provide iCloud or Google Drive backup.

Data sharing

Hypatia does not share Tax Residency location history, photo metadata, stay summaries, or app records with third-party advertising or analytics providers. The app does not include advertising or analytics SDKs. If the user contacts support, only the information included in that support request is processed so that Hypatia can respond.

Retention and deletion

Local app data remains on the device until the user removes it using an available in-app control, clears the app's storage, imports replacement data where supported, or uninstalls the app. On Android, clearing app storage or uninstalling Tax Residency removes its locally stored records. Optional iCloud backup files remain in the user's iCloud account until deleted by the user or by app backup retention settings.

User controls

• On Android, users can enable or stop tracking in Tax Residency Settings and can revoke foreground or background location and notification permissions in Android Settings.
• On iOS, location, motion, photo library, and notification permissions can be changed in iOS Settings.
• Tracking options and other available features can be managed inside the app. The exact controls differ between the iOS and Android editions.
• Users can export, import, back up, or reset records only where those controls are available in their installed app version.

International transfers

Hypatia does not transfer app records to its own servers. Optional iCloud features on iOS may involve Apple's infrastructure and international transfers under Apple's own legal terms and safeguards.

Children

Tax Residency is intended for adults and is not directed to children. Hypatia does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.

Rights and requests

Where applicable, users may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of personal information processed by Hypatia. Because app records are stored locally or, where enabled on iOS, in the user's iCloud account, many controls are available directly on the device. For privacy requests, contact info@hypatia.site.

Changes

Hypatia may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes. The latest version will be published on this page with the date above.
